15 under 15 with Alyss Groce – Trick Like A Girl

Episode 2 focuses on Alyss Groce. She’s 12, from Georgia and is rapidly growing her tricking arsenal. Let’s get to know her a bit better

1. When and how did you get into tricking?

I got into tricking around when I was 6, I got into tricking because of HYPER.

2. What is your favorite trick?

My favorite trick is Touchdown Raiz Corkscrew!

3. What is a trick you’ve been struggling with or working on a lot recently?

I have been struggling with my double corks.

4. What is your favorite tricking memory?

When I first got my corkscrew!

5. Who is your biggest tricking role model?

Michael Guthrie

6. How has having a martial arts background affected your tricking /style?

It has helped me to learn proper technique on how to kick safely while being able to combine my kicks with tricking and tumbling.

7. Have you been injured? If so, what was the recovery process like for you?

Yes, last year I broke my arm while tricking, it took me a couple of months to get back into training.

8. What was the biggest tricking challenge you’ve faced (mentally or physically)?

Mentally and physically is my 1-1-1.

9. How has being a girl in a male-dominated sport affected your mindset surrounding tricking?

It makes me want to push harder so I can show the boys that girls can do just as much as them!

10. What is a fun fact about you?

I love anime!

11. Why should girls get involved in tricking?

Tricking is a great way to express yourself, build confidence and to get active! I would recommend it to any girl!

12. What is your dream trick?

Triple Full!

13. What is your favorite gym you’ve gone to?

JAM!

14. What is the tricking community around you? How has being a part of this community (or lack thereof) affected your tricking journey?

I’ve been blessed to have the stunting community around me and to have people flying in from MARVEL so I get a variety of East Coast, West Coast and Midwest trickers which bring different styles and creativity. Because I have so many different styles around me, it allows me to be unique and level up faster because people give me different ideas to be able to change it up.

15. What’s next for you?

I want to become a top girl tricker and break the girl record for the most swing corks!
